The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Switch NSP ROM is an adventure RPG for the Nintendo Switch, notable for being the first main Zelda game where you play as Princess Zelda.
For the first time in a 2D Zelda game, the Z-targeting system from Ocarina of Time is included. However, unlike Ocarina of Time’s simpler targeting, Echoes of Wisdom’s top-down view makes aiming more complex, requiring patience before locking onto enemies. Once targeted, the system prioritizes that enemy in combat.
One of the game’s most captivating features is the sense that Zelda’s story has already unfolded before your arrival. As you explore, you meet characters who hint at Link’s past actions and even find his hometown—where he likely first learned swordplay. The world of Hyrule knows him, sharing tales of his adventures. You uncover fragments of Link’s journey as he aids Hyrule’s races in their quest to save Zelda.
Despite few cutscenes, narrative is central to Echoes of Wisdom, reflected in the game world’s deep ties to the Zelda series. New elements appear without contradicting previous games. Series producer Eiji Aonuma worked extensively on the story, evident in the game’s polished storytelling.
Echoes of Wisdom echoes the style of A Link to the Past but offers a unique Zelda experience. Its innovative Echo System refreshes combat and puzzles. While the game hesitates to fully explore this mechanic, more control over character echoes would have enhanced the experience. Dungeons have regained a quality not seen in over a decade, and the music is excellent. Performance stays steady at 30 frames per second, sometimes reaching 60.
Overall, Echoes of Wisdom fits seamlessly into the Zelda universe, delivering surprising originality while honoring its legacy.
