Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, in NSP format, is an action-adventure game that lets you experience two of the most popular games in the Castlevania series. In “Rondo of Blood,” play as Richter Belmont, a descendant of a legendary vampire-hunting clan, and climb to the top of Dracula’s castle. Or in “Symphony of the Night,” control Alucard, Dracula’s son.
Four years after Richter Belmont defeated Count Dracula, the legendary vampire hunter mysteriously disappeared. Suddenly, the Count’s ominous castle, Castlevania, reappears, shrouded in a thick mist. This unexpected reappearance brings two heroes face to face: Maria Reynard, a young woman with magical powers searching for Richter, and Alucard, Dracula’s son, a half-vampire who awakens to end his father’s legacy of chaos.
A direct sequel to Rondo of Blood, Symphony of the Night was developed and directed by Toru Hagihara and Koji Igarashi. Unlike previous linear games, it revolutionized the Metroidvania series as a first of its kind, laying the groundwork for the genre alongside Super Metroid. The game features a complex, non-linear world filled with secrets and hidden passages. As Alucard gains new abilities and discovers rare items, players can revisit areas they’ve previously explored and reach previously inaccessible locations. While initial sales were modest, Symphony of the Night became an extremely popular game, with critics considering it the pinnacle of the series and one of the best video games of all time.
