Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Switch (NSP ROM XCI) is a role-playing adventure game where players explore a vast city, encounter wild Pokémon, and experience the series from a fresh perspective. Specifically, during my testing, the game ran smoothly at 60 frames per second.

However, I’m not entirely convinced by the decision to set the game in a bustling city. I loved the expansive landscapes of Arceus, the sunrises, and the changing ocean colors. I fear I’ll soon grow tired of the less appealing graphics and darker streets, but I haven’t fully explored Legends: Z-A yet, so I’m not sure. Nevertheless, it’s great to see a noticeable improvement in the game’s build and performance (at least on Switch 2) compared to Legends: Arceus.

I tried it myself on the recommendation of my dear friend Lida. The narrow city streets are full of surprises, but also offer opportunities for stealth and hiding. Battles start smoothly, as in Legends: Arceus, but Legends: Z-A abandons a slightly modified version of the turn-based battle mechanics we all know. Here, Z-A offers instant action. At least, that’s how it seems. The menus help you get used to the game, but the difficulty of this wilderness area is strangely uneven.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is available in NSP and/or XCI formats for Nintendo Switch CFW consoles and is also compatible with leading Nintendo Switch emulators on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. The ROM file size is approximately 4.02 GB, which may vary depending on the game version, updates, and additional DLC content.
