The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (NSP ROM XCI) for Nintendo Switch is an epic adventure game that takes you on a journey through the lands and skies of Hyrule. To call The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom a bit of a disappointment would be an understatement and a terrible way to start a review. Fortunately, Nintendo recently invited us to try the game at their European headquarters in Frankfurt. With all our excitement, we spent a full 70 minutes with the game, which felt like an eternity. So, what did we think? Was it worth the wait?
We started with a short session on a floating island designed to familiarize ourselves with the controls and test (or at least begin testing) the new mechanics. Initially, we were a little hesitant due to the implicit invitation to “enjoy what’s to come.” We tried the Ultra Hand feature and quickly realized that our understanding of physics was far less than we thought. One of the Koroks helped us carry the heavy load on its back while searching for its friend, and we collected some Korok seeds during our journey (you can write “They’re back!” in the comments if you like).
Also, most Zelda games can be played without having played previous games, but Tears of the Kingdom, being similar to Breath of the Wild’s expansion pack, will require you to (re)play it to understand the story. During the few hours I spent exploring the world, I focused on two small but significant areas (compared to the rest of the map) in Tears of the Kingdom’s open world.
Switch games are playable on PC using emulators like Yuzu or Ryujinx.
