Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Switch NSP ROM is an action-adventure game where players explore the planet Mera and defend themselves using giant combat robots. This epic fantasy adventure returns for a new generation.
The success of earlier games in the series led to its exciting comeback. Naturally, we were eager to dive into this fresh take on the classic franchise. This review focuses on the first four chapters, which mainly emphasize world exploration and include some minor changes that even newcomers will notice.
On the dynamic planet Mera, aliens are hunting an abandoned ship called the White Whale. After escaping in a survival capsule, you arrive in New Los Angeles—a sprawling city built around a ruined student dormitory. You quickly join Colonel Elma’s Blade unit. Your mission: find Mera, eliminate threats, and locate a beluga whale lair rumored to house survivors. Mera’s world is rich, captivating, and filled with charming characters.
While the game has several engaging storylines, much of the narrative feels tedious, especially early on. Characters often relay information through clichés, causing long waits before explaining Mera and New Los Angeles. This slows the start but improves later, as the game’s many complex, interconnected systems unfold.

Unfortunately, creatures rarely interact naturally, whether as prey or among their own species. You may spot flocks of flying owls, turkey-like aliens migrating together, or tiger-like Grixes basking—yet they don’t hunt each other as expected. Mera feels like a hostile world, but the lack of an artificial food chain gives the impression of exploring a vast zoo where you are the only prey. New Los Angeles also feels congested and stagnant.
Cars pass without noticing you, and people often ignore your presence. Refugees from Earth go almost unnoticed, while the mediocre, overly dynamic music worsens the atmosphere. As usual, the start is unsettling. After fleeing an alien threat, humanity left Earth seeking a new home in the galaxy. A beluga whale crashes on Mera, and months after settling, Blade member Abel discovers the Player’s Survival Capsule.
